(Fr. from Lat, in tabula), the superstructure which lies horizontally upon the columns in Classic architecture: it is divided into architrave, the part immediately above the column; friexe, the central space; and cornice the upper projecting mouldings, Each of the orders has its appropriate entabature, of which both the general hight and the subdivisions are regulated by a scale of proportio derived from the diameter of the column, (See Column and Order.)
