Our new Colossal Column combines the classic column design of the past with the innovative technology of today. These magnificent columns become the focal point of any structure. The Colossal Column is made using a filament winding procedure that comes from the fabrication of rocket and missile cases (!) creating lighter weight structures without sacrificing strength or beauty. A 20" x 20' column weighs 550 pounds in wood, but only 176 pounds using our filament winding process.

Compression strength for a 20" column in wood is 20,000 pounds, but for the Colossal Column it is up to 35,000 pounds. The Colossal is low maintenance, impervious to wet and dry rot, insects and splitting.

We recommend that you prime the columns, then use polyurethane paint (automotive) to finish. Our Colossal Column is unique in that it can be filled with Quickrete® to "sound" and "feel" more solid when touched. But the Colossal Column is load-bearing, and does not necessarily need to be filled. When shipping, we wrap the columns in a foam material that is soft, and the columns rarely get damaged. Surface scratches and nicks can be easily repaired using Bondo®.
